Prototypes

Objective:

The objective of Prototypes was to create interactive, high-fidelity representations of the website. By simulating user interactions and design elements, our goal was to refine the user experience further, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing interface.

Approach:

We transformed wireframes into interactive prototypes, incorporating design elements, animations, and functionality. User testing sessions were conducted with these prototypes, allowing real-time feedback and iterative refinements. This process enabled us to validate design decisions and make necessary adjustments before the final implementation.

Outcome:

The Prototypes brought the website to life, offering stakeholders and users a tangible preview of the final product. The Product Before

Navigating HGV's Previous Platform

Before embarking on the transformative journey of redesigning the HGV platform, it’s essential to understand the user experience challenges that were prevalent in the previous version. Here, we take a step back to explore the landscape of HGV’s platform before the redesign project came into play.

The User Interface:

In its previous incarnation, the HGV platform featured a user interface that, while functional, left much to be desired in terms of user-friendliness. The layout often felt cluttered, with navigation pathways that weren’t as intuitive as they could be. Users sometimes found themselves struggling to locate essential information and offers.

Availability Challenges:

One significant challenge users faced was related to offer availability. It wasn’t always clear which offers were accessible, and users had to navigate through multiple pages to find suitable vacation options. This lack of transparency sometimes led to missed opportunities and user frustration.

Login and Access Issues:

Login issues and difficulties accessing the platform were not uncommon. Users occasionally encountered bugs, and there were delays in providing access to new users. This impacted the initial impression of the platform and led to early frustrations.

Contacting Support:

Users who needed assistance often found it challenging to locate the right contact information or help options. The Contact page, while informative, could be overwhelming due to the sheer volume of information presented. Users sometimes struggled to identify the best way to address their specific needs.

Conclusion:

Before the redesign project, the HGV platform faced several usability challenges that impacted user satisfaction and engagement. These challenges ranged from interface clutter to difficulties in finding offers, login issues, and accessing support. In the following sections, we’ll explore how the redesign project tackled these issues head-on, ultimately leading to a vastly improved user experience.

Heuristic Evaluation

Objective:

The objective of our Heuristic Evaluation was to assess the application against established usability heuristics. We aimed to identify usability violations and design shortcomings that might not be apparent through user testing alone.

Approach:

Our team of UX experts conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the application, focusing on established usability principles such as learnability, efficiency, and error prevention. This expert analysis provided a holistic view of the application’s usability.

Competitors Analysis

Objective:

Our goal was to gain insights from competitor analysis to identify market trends, benchmark HGV against competitors, and find opportunities for differentiation. We aimed to position HGV as a leader in the industry by understanding and leveraging competitor strengths and weaknesses.

Approach:

We conducted in-depth research into competitors’ offerings, user experiences, and market positioning. Our approach involved creating comprehensive competitor profiles, analyzing their user feedback, and identifying gaps in their services compared to HGV.

Outcome:

Competitor analysis armed HGV with a strategic advantage. By capitalizing on competitor weaknesses and incorporating user-preferred features, HGV differentiated itself effectively. The result was a platform that not only met but exceeded user expectations, solidifying its position as a top player in the market.

Personas

Objective:

Developing user personas aimed to create a deeper understanding of HGV’s diverse customer base, facilitating tailored user experiences. Our objective was to humanize the user base, allowing us to design with empathy and precision to meet their distinct needs and preferences.

Approach:

We conducted extensive user research, including surveys, interviews, and data analysis, to define personas accurately. Our approach involved segmenting users based on their behaviors, preferences, and pain points. We then crafted detailed personas, complete with names, backgrounds, and user stories.

Outcome:

Personas provided invaluable insights into our users’ motivations and behaviors. Design decisions became more user-centric and targeted, resulting in more personalized and engaging experiences. This approach contributed to increased user satisfaction and loyalty.

Site Map

Objective:

Our primary objective in creating a new site map was to enhance platform navigation by reorganizing content and streamlining user pathways. We aimed to eliminate confusion and ensure users could effortlessly find the information they needed, ultimately improving their overall experience.

Approach:

To achieve this objective, we conducted a comprehensive content audit, analyzing the existing site map and user journeys. We then restructured the site map, prioritizing clarity and user-centric organization. Our approach also included usability testing to validate the effectiveness of the new site map.

Outcome:

The new site map significantly improved platform navigation. Users reported fewer navigation-related issues, leading to a more streamlined and user-friendly experience. This enhancement reduced bounce rates and encouraged users to explore the platform more extensively.

Testing and Iteration

User Testing Round 1 (10 testers):

Tested two new concepts against the current platform.

User Testing Round 2 (5 testers):

We reiterated Prototype A and Prototype B based on the feedback received from User Test Round 1 and conducted another round of testing to identify the best elements in each solution for users.

Limitations of the Tests:

  • Focused on general flow and accomplishing basic tasks in trading of finding relevant information of account, buying and selling at market and limit.
  • High-level feedback on design and taxonomy was accomplished.
  • No specific test or focus on UI design elements, interface design and interaction, and micro interaction.
  • Testers ranged from seasoned testers to non-traders- No pre-screening was done due to time limitations.

Results:

User Flow

Objective:

The User Flow phase aimed to define the optimal path users should take when checking in vehicles through the Secure Dart application. Our objective was to create a seamless and intuitive step-by-step process for users, addressing pain points identified during earlier phases.

Approach:

We collaborated closely with AutoAuction’s team to understand the intricacies of their check-in process. Through workshops and user interviews, we mapped out the ideal user journey, ensuring that it aligned with both user needs and business objectives.

Outcome:

The resulting user flow provided a clear and structured path for users, streamlining the check-in process. It served as a blueprint for subsequent design phases, ensuring that the redesigned Secure Dart would be both user-friendly and efficient.

The Product Before

Before the inception of the Packages and Products project, the background check process faced a multitude of challenges. MyBG had been utilizing several separate applications to manage various aspects of this critical process. These legacy apps lacked the modern, user-friendly interface that the company was striving to implement consistently across its portfolio. The cost of individually redesigning these outdated applications was prohibitive.

The need for a unified solution became apparent—a robust application that could seamlessly integrate multiple functions while adhering to MyBG’s newly redesigned user interface standards. This project, known as “Packages and Products,” was born out of the necessity to streamline the process of selecting background check services for businesses of all sizes.

At the core of the problem was a cumbersome and lengthy registration process. Users were required to create accounts and enter extensive information manually. Recognizing the need for efficiency, the vision was to simplify this process by allowing recruiters to assist clients by pre-filling essential data. The application would guide clients through the remaining steps, including contract approvals and package selections.

One significant challenge was that the existing system lacked a mechanism to estimate the time required to complete the process. Security regulations mandated session timeouts, adding further complexity. Users frequently faced session closures and had to go through data verification each time they resumed, causing frustration and delays.

Moreover, the lack of customization options in the legacy application posed a problem. Clients could only select products from a predefined list and were often forced to pay for unnecessary services while missing out on essential ones. Making changes after creating an order was an arduous process, requiring specialist assistance.

Customer complaints were on the rise, inundating the support center with calls, and the dropout rate was as high as 45%. The urgency to create a new, superior application was undeniable. Redesigning the existing app, MyBackground, would have caused more disruption and potential losses with current clients. The solution was to develop a successor, offering a superior experience while gradually phasing out MyBackground.
